Jane stroked her sister’s hair and asked, “Are you in love, Lizzie?”

She looked up and nodded with a small smile, “I fear I am, even if I did not want to love him in the beginning. I was in the middle of it before I knew it had begun and my heart breaks that I will never be deserving of him.”

“Who? Is it Mr. Wick…” Jane was interrupted from continuing.

“No! Not him, but someone whom I thought I despised,” Elizabeth retorted. “I am in love with Fitzwilliam Darcy and he loves me in return but I will never be his equal.” She laughed to see Jane’s mouth agape. “I, poor Elizabeth Bennet with £50 a year and granddaughter of a solicitor, am in love with a grandson of an earl with £10,000 per annum! Is that not laughable?”
